GK Software SE is a listed German technology company specialising in software solutions for large retail chains. Their Innovations department explores new frontiers — including how wearables can change the way shop staff work.
Challenge
The brief was tight and unconventional: build a proof-of-concept Apple Watch app that lets shop assistants in large clothing stores respond to customer requests — specifically, fetching alternative sizes, colours, or models of an item — coordinated directly from the wrist.
The client had a basic UI concept. What they didn’t have was much time: the deadline was four weeks.
Solution
We started with two days of focused design refinement and requirements definition. Edgica assigned one dedicated iOS/Swift developer to work directly with the client’s representative, supported by a solution architect for technical guidance.
Over the four-week sprint, we delivered three versions of the app — targeting Apple Watch Series 2, 3, and 4 — each optimised for the respective hardware capabilities. The app included push notification support and used Backendless as the backend service for the POC, keeping infrastructure lightweight and fast to configure.
The scope remained lean and purposeful: the goal was to validate the concept at a real-world event, not to build a production system.

Result
The POC was delivered on time and used by GK Software at several industry events to gather market feedback on the wearable retail assistant concept. The engagement demonstrated that a fast, high-quality specialist could be sourced and productive within days — and delivered results that met the client’s innovation goals.
As Head of Innovation, it is important to develop new solutions truly agile and fast. The sourcing and cooperation with Edgica was a key success factor to hire the desired specialist with fewer process borders and truly fast. Prices were competitive, but especially delivered results were the best for us.
